Proactive Measures to Prevent Winter Traffic Accidents
Striving for Zero Safety Incidents
Cheongsong in North Gyeongsang Province, known as the "Land of Snowflakes," has entered an emergency mode to safeguard road safety during the winter season.
Cheongsong County (Governor Yoon Kyunghee) has established a comprehensive road snow removal plan for the 2025-2026 winter season to prepare for heavy snowfall and cold waves. From December 1 to March 15 of the following year, the county will actively implement snow and ice removal measures.
The county has proactively secured ample supplies of de-icing agents such as calcium chloride, eco-friendly snow removal agents, sand, and salt. In addition, 12,000 bags of anti-slip sand have been distributed across 15 vulnerable areas, including sections that are prone to frequent freezing.
Furthermore, the county has completed pre-inspections of three brine spraying facilities installed in the Deokcheon, Pinamoojae, and Cheoncheon districts, as well as snow removal equipment such as ten 1-ton Porter trucks, one 2.5-ton truck, four 15-ton dump trucks, 51 tractors, snowplow blades, and sand spreaders, all of which will be deployed for snow removal operations.
In addition, when a heavy snow advisory is issued, the county will closely cooperate with relevant agencies to activate a prompt and systematic response system. Snow removal operations will be prioritized on major roads and mountain passes with high traffic volumes.
In particular, the county plans to focus on preventing traffic accidents caused by black ice during the winter and to take the lead in achieving zero safety accidents.
A Cheongsong County official stated, "With concerns about heavy snowfall due to abnormal weather this winter, we ask that residents refrain from driving as much as possible during snowfalls. We will do our utmost to ensure prompt snow removal on roads to minimize inconvenience for residents."
