The National Police Agency has requested the removal of related posts from Taobao, a major Chinese online shopping platform, through the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).
According to the National Police Agency on December 5, posts selling accounts belonging to Korean users of Musinsa were identified through online monitoring, and a request for their removal was made to Taobao via Interpol.
Recently, there has been growing controversy as accounts belonging to Koreans registered on platforms such as Coupang, Musinsa, and CJ Olive Young have been put up for sale on Taobao. It has been confirmed that Chinese sellers possess not only Korean users’ IDs and passwords, but also sensitive information such as real names, mobile phone numbers, and dates of birth.
The posts selling Korean Coupang accounts had already been deleted. Police have also launched investigations into suspected cases of unauthorized payments that came to light following the Coupang personal information leak incident.
An official from the National Police Agency stated, “We are continuously monitoring overseas websites for posts selling Korean accounts,” adding, “Whenever such posts are found, we consistently request their removal through Interpol.”
