Grand Theater, Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center
The Daejeon Art Choir will present its third planned concert, "Stars and Praise," on December 9 at the Grand Theater of the Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center.
This performance features a program dedicated to John Rutter, a leading figure in contemporary British choral music, and is intended to offer the audience quiet comfort and calm energy as the year comes to a close.
The concert will include Rutter’s renowned sacred choral piece "Dormi Jesu," as well as the grand and intricate large-scale choral work "Magnificat." Especially well-known as the Song of Mary, "Magnificat" is characterized by its rich harmonies and clear structure, conveying a sense of gratitude and hope befitting the end of the year.
"Magnificat," based on the "Song of Mary," is one of John Rutter’s signature choral works, seamlessly blending grandeur with bright lyricism.
In particular, the piano accompaniment and choir work in close harmony to express the joy and gratitude of the Virgin Mary in a modern musical language. Each movement distinctly conveys the flow of emotions, creating an atmosphere of hope and blessing that is well-suited for a year-end concert.
A representative of the Daejeon Art Choir stated, "We prepared this program with citizens in mind who may need a moment to pause and catch their breath during the busy year-end season," adding, "We hope to share the gentle yet lasting resonance of choral music, like starlight, with the audience."
This concert is expected to be a choral performance that can move people of all generations, providing an opportunity for the audience to quietly reflect on the past year and gain strength to welcome the new year through music imbued with praise and blessings.
