Securing 430 Million Won for Dolmen Traditional Market and More
Hwasun County in South Jeolla Province plans to actively promote facility modernization projects for the Hwasun Dolmen Traditional Market and the Neungju Traditional Market, following its selection for the 2026 Traditional Market and Shopping District Modernization Project and securing special adjustment grants from Jeollanam-do Province.
According to the county on December 5, Hwasun Dolmen Traditional Market has secured 430 million won through the Traditional Market and Shopping District Modernization Project, while Neungju Traditional Market has secured 150 million won through a small-scale regional development project and special adjustment grants from Jeollanam-do Province, laying the groundwork for the projects.
This facility modernization project aims to revitalize the local commercial district and improve convenience for residents, with a focus on updating the outdated image of traditional markets and creating visible changes that visitors can directly experience.
For the Dolmen Traditional Market, the county will carry out the replacement of old shop LED lighting, installation of LED market signboards, painting of shop walls and columns, and floor repairs. For Neungju Traditional Market, the county plans to install fans to cope with heat waves and create a multipurpose stage for local events and performances, thereby improving the living environment.
The county plans to complete the design phase quickly by the first half of next year and then begin full-scale construction, aiming to deliver tangible changes that both residents and merchants can feel. Through these efforts, the market is expected not only to enhance convenience for residents but also to expand its role as a cultural space for community activities.
Park Yonghee, Director of the Regional Economy Division, stated, "Traditional markets are the center of the local economy and the foundation of residents' daily lives. Based on our selection for the public project and the secured grants, we will continue to support our local markets so they can become even more vibrant and attractive."
Meanwhile, this year the county has implemented environmental improvement projects such as installing 31 cooling fog systems and large ceiling fans at Hwasun Dolmen Traditional Market for the convenience of merchants and visitors, and creating a gallery window at Neungju Traditional Market.
