Seeking Solutions for Resource Circulation and Plastic Reduction with Public Institutions and Civic Groups
Busan Transportation Corporation (President Lee Byungjin) announced that on December 5, it will host the 'Together Green, A Sustainable Day' seminar and a citizen participation program at the Metro Lounge Gwang-an, located on the first basement level of Gwang-an Station on Busan Metro Line 2, in collaboration with local public institutions and civic groups in Busan.
This event has been organized to seek ways to promote resource circulation and reduce plastic usage, as well as to discuss strategies for spreading ESG practices at the local level. It is co-hosted by the 'Busan City Public Institutions-Civic Groups ESG Council' and the Busan Citizen Movement Support Center.
The Busan City Public Institutions-Civic Groups ESG Council is a consultative body formed to promote ESG initiatives in the local community. It consists of five public institutions-Busan Transportation Corporation, Busan Urban Corporation, Busan Tourism Organization, Busan Facilities Management Corporation, and Busan Environmental Corporation-and five civic groups-Busan Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice, Busan Federation for Environmental Movements, Busan YMCA, Busan YWCA, and Busan Green Trust.
The seminar will begin with opening remarks by Cho Yong-eon, Co-Representative of the Busan Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice, followed by presentations on: ▲ Gimhae City's case of reducing and recycling single-use items (by Lee Chigyoon, Head of Resource Circulation, Gimhae City); ▲ ESG implementation cases in public institutions using plastic upcycling (by Byun Euihyun, CEO of Ulsan); and ▲ a discussion on plastic reduction challenges and strategies (moderated by Jung Sujin, Head of Planning).
Based on the discussions held at the seminar, the council plans to develop concrete action plans such as: ▲ developing local ESG programs, ▲ expanding citizen-participatory environmental campaigns, and ▲ strengthening collaboration among institutions.
In addition, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the event venue, citizen participation programs will be offered, allowing participants to experience the value of resource circulation firsthand. Busan YWCA will operate a booth for making coasters using sock yarn, and the Busan Federation for Environmental Movements will hold a placard exhibition titled 'Plastics Threatening Human Rights,' highlighting plastic issues from an environmental human rights perspective.
Lee Byungjin, President of Busan Transportation Corporation, stated, "I hope the momentum of ESG cooperation built by public institutions and civil society in Busan will spread throughout the city," adding, "We will fulfill our responsibility as a leading public institution in the local ESG ecosystem, going beyond simply operating eco-friendly public transportation."
