According to the county on December 4, at the "7th Provincial and City/County Policy Council" held the previous day, Gochang County gave a presentation on the theme of the "Gocham(Chang) Sweet Potato Gochang County·Lotte Wellfood Honey Combination Win-Win Project." The project was highly praised for its innovation and scalability in addressing local extinction.
The county plans to utilize a special adjustment grant worth 20 million won, awarded by Jeonbuk Province, in appropriate areas as needed.
Previously, the county, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Lotte Wellfood, jointly developed and launched 12 types of snacks using the region's specialty product (Gochang sweet potatoes). Although these products were initially planned for limited sales over two months in September and October, they sold out completely within just two weeks of their release, gaining significant popularity.
Furthermore, local farmers were able to generate direct income by supplying raw sweet potatoes, while the company practiced ESG management. The project also led to a stamp tour in connection with Gochang's seven World Heritage tourist sites, resulting in an increase in the local population.
Gochang County Mayor Shim Deokseop stated, "We will continue to expand this win-win model that strengthens the income base of local farmers and revitalizes the community together with businesses, making Gochang a place where people want to live and stay."
Meanwhile, the county has once again proven its status as a leading local government for excellent policies, following last year's Grand Prize (for agricultural document simplification and seasonal worker policies), marking two consecutive years of recognition.
