Kim Kyunghoon, CEO of OpenAI Korea, held his first press conference after taking office on the 4th at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul. During the event, he shared the current status of AI adoption following three years since the launch of ChatGPT.
Kim stated, "The number of daily ChatGPT messages worldwide increased from 450 million in June last year to 2.63 billion in June this year, a nearly sixfold increase," adding, "ChatGPT is leading the mainstream adoption of AI."
In Korea, the use of ChatGPT for work purposes was particularly prominent. The proportion of users utilizing it for tasks such as document or contract translation and email writing accounted for 29%, followed by 21% who used it for advice on how to carry out work assignments. Globally, a higher percentage of users (29%) used ChatGPT for practical advice, including exercise and health, daily life information, learning tips, and creative idea suggestions.
Kim emphasized, "Currently, over 800 million people around the world use ChatGPT each week and more than one million companies have adopted OpenAI technology to drive AI transformation. As employees are already familiar with using ChatGPT, the pilot period for ChatGPT Enterprise for businesses is becoming shorter, enabling a faster AI transformation."
At the press conference, GS Engineering & Construction and LG Uplus participated to share real-world cases of AI adoption. GS Engineering & Construction reported that it has distributed ChatGPT Enterprise internally and is sharing various AI use cases across the organization to drive work innovation.
LG Uplus announced plans to launch the Agentic Callbot Standard powered by OpenAI technology on the 16th, and to release the Agentic Callbot Pro in the first half of next year.
