Hanyang University ERICA Jewelry and Fashion Design Department Wins FABI Fashion Invitational Grand Prize for Second Consecutive Year

The Department of Jewelry and Fashion Design at Hanyang University ERICA has produced the grand prize winner of the FABI Fashion Invitational Exhibition for two consecutive years.

On the 17th of last month, at the 25th FABI Fashion Invitational Exhibition, Son Ri, a student from Hanyang University ERICA Department of Jewelry and Fashion Design, won the grand prize with her upcycling work titled "Re:Structure," themed on "Deconstruction and Reconstruction," and is taking a commemorative photo. On December 5, Hanyang University ERICA announced that Son Ri, a student from the Department of Jewelry and Fashion Design, received the grand prize at the 25th FABI Fashion Invitational Exhibition held on November 17. This invitational exhibition, organized by the Korean Fashion Business Association and sponsored by Youngone Holdings, has been held since 1999 to connect industry and academia.

Son Ri, building on Kim Hansol’s “AI-Based Fashion Design Research” course, presented ▲ design development utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and ▲ the potential of sustainable fashion combined with recycling. The award-winning piece, “Re:Structure,” is an upcycling work themed “Deconstruction and Reconstruction.” By analyzing AI trends and recombining existing garments, the work was realized as a new form of outdoor wear.

Other students who took the same course also achieved notable results: Lee Suknam won the bronze prize, Hwang Yeocheon received a special selection award, and Wang Hoyun, Wang Sodong, Han Heundung, and Wu Weining were selected as finalists.

The Department of Jewelry and Fashion Design at Hanyang University ERICA also produced the grand prize winner at this invitational exhibition last year. At that time, under the guidance of Professor Lee Youngjae, who conducted practical education on sustainable fashion design through the “Fashion Draping Research” course, student Lee Sobang received the grand prize for a creative silhouette based on three-dimensional draping.

A representative from Hanyang University stated, “Hanyang University ERICA has achieved the distinction of producing the grand prize winner of the FABI Fashion Invitational Exhibition for two consecutive years, once again demonstrating the strength of our educational system, in which AI- and sustainability-based education leads to tangible creative achievements.”
