Geochang County to Implement Comprehensive Winter Safety and Management Measures for 2025

18 Detailed Measures Established Across Four Key Areas Including Disaster and Epidemic Prevention

Geochang County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on December 3 that it has established the "2025 Comprehensive Winter Countermeasures" and will implement 18 detailed measures across four key areas-including disaster and epidemic prevention, as well as fire, wildfire, and safety accident prevention-from December 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026.

First, to respond to natural disasters such as heavy snow and cold waves, the county has formed a Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, which operates 24 hours a day with the participation of 15 departments, 12 towns and townships, and related agencies.

This year, the county has especially integrated the disaster safety situation room and the CCTV control center to establish a system that enables even faster initial response and information dissemination. In addition, areas at risk of human or property damage, as well as sections vulnerable to icing and snow removal, will be intensively managed to minimize inconvenience for residents.

In the "health and safety sector," an emergency room monitoring system for cold-related illnesses will be established to manage health safety in the event of disasters or accidents. The county will also organize rapid response teams and set up on-site emergency medical stations to respond quickly to emergency patients.

To prepare for winter infectious diseases, an emergency quarantine system will be operated to monitor for outbreaks. If a group infection occurs, an epidemiological investigation team will be promptly dispatched to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

To prevent "fires and other safety accidents," a situation management team will be operated to ensure quick initial response, and gas and electrical facilities in traditional markets and other locations will be inspected to address potential risks.

For "wildfire prevention," the county will focus on the Wildfire Prevention Countermeasures Situation Room and the Wildfire Response Center. In particular, major tourist destinations such as Suseungdae, Anti-Aging Healing Land, Forest Leisure Sports Park, Changpowon, and Byeol Baram Hill will undergo fire and safety facility inspections and disinfection to ensure winter safety management.

To "protect socially vulnerable groups," the county will operate a task force to identify those in welfare blind spots and, through active public-private cooperation, build a human and social safety net to support and protect households in crisis.

Additionally, the county will lay the foundation for stabilizing residents' livelihoods by managing prices and public utility charges and providing public work opportunities for young people. An emergency water supply system will also be established to prepare for water supply issues caused by frozen water pipes during winter.

Gu Inmo, Mayor of Geochang County, stated, "This winter, with challenging conditions in prices, the economy, and climate, we will ensure that the daily lives of our residents remain stable. We will focus administrative resources on preventing heavy snow, cold waves, infectious diseases, fires, and wildfires, as well as protecting vulnerable groups, to implement the comprehensive winter countermeasures without any setbacks."
