Vymaterials Accelerates Global Expansion with Advanced Fuel Cell and Water Electrolysis Technologies

Vymaterials Co., Ltd., which is contributing to the revitalization of the domestic hydrogen economy by securing material technologies across the entire hydrogen energy industry, is accelerating its entry into the global market based on its core technologies in fuel cells, reformers, and water electrolysis.

Vymaterials has significantly improved fuel cell efficiency by manufacturing highly crystalline carbon supports through a multi-stage hybrid process and implementing a uniform porous structure within. This technology has already completed both development and mass production systems, and its commercial viability has been demonstrated as it is set to be applied to hydrogen vehicles scheduled for domestic release. Evaluations with major overseas companies in the UK, Japan, and other countries are also underway.

In electrode catalyst technology, Vymaterials has secured a process for uniformly distributing nano-sized platinum and alloy particles on the surface of carbon supports, thereby enhancing both the efficiency and durability of fuel cells. Based on its industry-leading electrode catalyst technology, the company has established pilot-scale facilities and is continuing the development of next-generation high-permeability electrode catalysts.

Vymaterials has also achieved a significant efficiency improvement in SMR (Steam Methane Reforming)-based technology for reformer systems that convert city gas to hydrogen. The company possesses catalyst technologies that cover the entire process, from reforming catalysts to WGS (Water-Gas Shift) and Prox (Preferential Oxidation) catalysts, and is preparing to launch prototypes in 2026 in collaboration with engineering firms.

In green hydrogen technology based on water electrolysis, Vymaterials is developing catalyst technologies for both cathode and anode applications, thereby strengthening its eco-friendly hydrogen production capabilities. In particular, the company is continuously researching to improve the performance and reduce the cost of Nano-IrO₂-based oxygen evolution catalysts and hydrogen evolution catalysts, enhancing its responsiveness to next-generation water electrolysis systems.

Founded in March 2022, Vymaterials is composed of professionals with over 10 years of experience in fuel cells, exhaust gas, and industrial catalysts, and its research team includes members designated as national core personnel who are leading technology development. In 2023, the company was officially recognized for its technological prowess and growth potential by being selected for the "Super Gap Startup 1000+ Project" organized by Korea Electric Power Corporation.

As a result of collaborating with numerous major domestic conglomerates and overseas clients in the field of fuel cell materials, and pursuing technology development that accurately reflects industry trends, Vymaterials’ carbon material developed within just three years of its founding is now at the stage of being prepared for mass production in hydrogen vehicles.

Looking ahead, Vymaterials plans to expand joint development with clients targeting next-generation hydrogen vehicle systems and to establish itself as a leading company in the eco-friendly energy industry by securing core material technologies in the hydrogen energy sector.

A Vymaterials representative stated, "Our goal is to secure material technologies across the entire hydrogen energy sector, from fuel cells to reformers and water electrolysis," adding, "We will contribute to revitalizing the domestic hydrogen economy with domestically produced core materials."
