According to Seo-gu on December 2, this evaluation, organized by Gwangju City, comprehensively assessed five autonomous districts in Gwangju, reviewing factors such as streetlight maintenance, electrical facility inspections by the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, operation of the integrated road lighting control system, and the implementation of support projects. The final decision was made based on these criteria.
Seo-gu has systematically maintained 11,751 streetlights and has continuously improved facilities that did not meet standards to prevent electrical safety accidents, thereby striving to create a safer nighttime road environment.
In particular, Seo-gu received high marks for replacing 97% of streetlights within the district with high-efficiency LED lighting to improve nighttime brightness and reduce electricity costs, as well as for minimizing inconvenience to residents by handling complaints through a streetlight GIS (Geographic Information System)-based management system.
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu, stated, "Through systematic maintenance of road lighting, we are creating a nighttime environment where residents can travel with peace of mind," adding, "We will continue to do our best to minimize inconvenience for residents and to create a pleasant and safe urban environment."
