Busan Open Consortium of Junior Colleges (BOCU) announced on December 2 that it had signed a business agreement on November 28 with the Busan-Ulsan branch of the Inno-Biz Association (Chairperson Shin Yoojung) to enhance the quality of local vocational and lifelong education and to cultivate practical talents based on industry demand.
This agreement was promoted in connection with the Regional Innovation System for Education (RISE) project led by the Ministry of Education and Busan Metropolitan City. Its goal is to establish a collaborative governance structure that enables local communities, industries, and educational institutions to grow together.
BOCU is a consortium of eight junior colleges in the Busan area, led by Dong-Eui Institute of Technology and including Kyungnam College of Information & Technology, Daedong College, Busan Kyungsang College, Busan Institute of Science and Technology, Busan Health College, Busan Women's College, and Busan Arts College. The consortium aims to drive innovation in higher vocational education and ensure sustainable growth in response to demographic changes and industrial restructuring.
Through this agreement, the two organizations have agreed to cooperate in various areas, including: establishing and operating joint governance for the successful implementation of the RISE project; sharing BOCU's outstanding achievements in industry-academia cooperation and practical talent development; promoting industry demand-oriented education; jointly developing and operating community-based, customized vocational and lifelong education programs; advancing mutual public interest and development projects utilizing their content, platforms, and human resources; and jointly planning and promoting Busan-style RISE initiatives.
Kim Youngdo, President of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, stated, "Combining the capabilities of the eight local junior colleges with corporate networks will take the cultivation of practical professionals needed in Busan to the next level. Through this agreement, we will systematically foster the specialized workforce demanded by industry and strengthen the foundation for local companies and educational institutions to grow together."
BOCU and the Busan-Ulsan branch of the Inno-Biz Association plan to use this agreement as an opportunity to strengthen local industry-tailored vocational and lifelong education, and to grow together with the local community by fostering practical talents based on industry-academia cooperation.
