"Seeking a Partner to Bear a Son"
Public Marriage Proposal via Apps and Newspaper Ads
A 79-year-old man holding the title of baronet in the United Kingdom has made a public proposal, seeking a "partner to bear him a son." He named women 30 to 40 years younger than himself as his ideal, but British internet users criticized his demands as excessive.
Recently, the New York Post in the United States reported that "Baronet Benjamin Slade has spent decades searching for a spouse to produce an heir, utilizing dating applications, newspaper advertisements, and even television appearances."
Slade, the 7th Baronet of Maunsel House-the lowest hereditary noble rank in the British aristocratic hierarchy-owns an estate spanning 1,300 acres (5.26 million square meters). He claimed to possess assets worth several million dollars and frozen sperm, stating that he is looking for a "good breeder."
His requirements for potential partners included excluding women who are Scorpios, readers of the British daily The Guardian, or those from countries whose flags contain green or whose country names begin with the letter "I."
He also mentioned that having a helicopter pilot's license and legal knowledge would be helpful, and specified that his ideal partner would be a woman 30 to 40 years younger than himself. He emphasized that the primary purpose of marriage is to have a son to inherit the family estate, saying, "If you want a new car, you buy a new car, not a used one." He also noted that it would be acceptable if his future wife already had a daughter.
Slade has long sought a spouse to bear him a son. He was married once, but divorced in 1991, citing the difficulty of managing 17 cats, and he had no children from that marriage.
Later, through in vitro fertilization, he had a daughter in 2021 with American poet Sahara Sunday Spain. However, he canceled marriage plans twice and is reportedly no longer in contact with her. Spain commented, "It's unbelievable that after all that has happened, he still says he wants a baby."
Slade promised his future wife an annual salary of 50,000 pounds (approximately 97.17 million won) and room and board. However, he noted that he is experiencing cash flow difficulties and would prefer that his partner also have a certain level of assets. Slade said, "It would be good to have a little private capital and income, and even better if she has significant wealth."
He is also reportedly in discussions to sell the family mansion, owned by his family since 1772, to a hotel group. Although he has generated income by renting the mansion as a wedding venue, the business suffered a major blow following the COVID-19 pandemic.
After news of Slade's proposal became public, British internet users responded with cynicism. One user pointed out, "A baronet is not even a high-ranking title, yet his demands are excessive." Another user criticized, "Slade's demands are generally offensive," adding, "I doubt his sanity."
