Police: "International Cooperation Procedures Underway for Coupang Personal Information Leak"

The National Office of Investigation at the Korean National Police Agency announced on December 1 that it is conducting an investigation into the Coupang personal information leak incident, stating, "We are working to clearly determine the process of the information leak and the scope of the damage, and to quickly apprehend the suspect." The agency added, "As part of this process, we are carrying out international cooperation procedures, including necessary IP tracking."

Through a press release on the same day, the National Office of Investigation stated, "To prevent secondary crimes that some are concerned about, we are simultaneously conducting tailored crime prevention activities targeting the types of crimes that could occur using the leaked personal information."


The agency explained, "We will analyze the current status and trends of crimes such as smishing, voice phishing, home invasion, and residential burglary, and manage each type in detail."


The National Office of Investigation also stated, "We are monitoring whether the leaked personal information is being distributed or sold on the dark web, as well as the spread of false information and fake news that may cause unnecessary public anxiety."
