The Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation announced on December 1 that it will release and sell the "Year of the Horse" currency intaglio print, commemorating the Byeong-o year (Year of the Red Horse), through pre-orders.
The "Year of the Horse" intaglio print is the fourth piece in the corporation's intaglio print series and the final work to be released this year.
While previous intaglio prints were based on famous paintings, this edition is especially meaningful as it features an original design created directly by a designer at the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation.

The artwork delicately depicts a galloping red horse in fine lines, capturing the spirit and abundant energy of the New Year.
The "Year of the Horse" intaglio print incorporates the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation’s sophisticated currency manufacturing technology. The intaglio printing technique, which constructs forms by densely combining lines and dots, allows for a unique three-dimensional texture that can be felt by tracing the surface with your fingertips. This technology creates a visual effect that makes the horse’s mane appear as if it is in motion, adding a sense of vitality to the piece.
The artwork features micro-lettering with the words "HORSE," "2026," and "KOMSCO." When copied or printed, these words become distorted or appear as lines or dots, serving as a security feature to prevent counterfeiting. Such details are a creative highlight of the currency intaglio print, enhancing the overall quality of the work.
The "Year of the Horse" intaglio print is available in a single small size (267x207.5mm). The Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation will conduct pre-order sales on its online shopping mall until December 15 on a first-come, first-served basis, after which regular sales will begin.
Purchasers of the intaglio print will receive a dedicated frame, a storage case, and a certificate of authenticity. The certificate includes a serial number, further enhancing its value as a collectible.
President Sung Changhoon of the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation stated, "The intaglio print series is a work that sublimates precise currency manufacturing technology into art. In particular, the 'Year of the Horse' intaglio print will serve as a meaningful gift to mark the beginning of the New Year and will appeal to the public as a piece that combines both artistry and technical excellence."
