A.Dot Adds AI Voice Phishing Detection Feature... Immediate Alerts for Suspicious Calls

Pop-up Windows, Alert Sounds, and Vibrations During Calls Guide Users
"Safe Detection Possible Without Concerns of Information Leakage"

SK Telecom announced on December 1 that it has newly added a call security feature, "AI Voice Phishing Detection," to its artificial intelligence (AI) phone service, A.Dot Call.

A.Dot Adds AI Voice Phishing Detection Feature... Immediate Alerts for Suspicious Calls Using the 'AI Voice Phishing Detection' feature in the 'Call' menu within the A.Dot App (iOS). Provided by SK Telecom

The AI Voice Phishing Detection feature analyzes conversation content in real time during calls and immediately alerts users if a call is suspected to be a voice phishing attempt. SK Telecom expects that this feature will help protect users from increasingly sophisticated voice phishing crimes and provide a safer calling environment.

The AI model determines whether a call is suspicious by comprehensively analyzing various factors, including the presence of suspicious keywords and conversation patterns, in real time during the call. However, calls from numbers saved in the user's contacts or from official business numbers registered in the "Biz Contacts" section of A.Dot Call are excluded from analysis.

The analysis results are classified into two levels-"suspicious" and "dangerous"-depending on the severity. Users are immediately notified through warning pop-up windows, alert sounds, and vibrations during the call.

If the user does not select "Not Voice Phishing" on the warning pop-up window, a "Phishing Detection" label will be attached to the number after the call ends. The warning label can be checked in the "Recent Records" and "Search" screens within A.Dot Call.

If a user attempts to call a number with a warning label, A.Dot Call displays a warning pop-up window to confirm whether the user wants to proceed with the call. When a call is received from a suspicious number, A.Dot Call displays warning messages such as "Call detected as voice phishing" on the incoming call screen to alert the user to the risk.

This feature is based on on-device AI technology, processing the entire process from call content analysis to warning notifications directly on the device. The AI model analyzes call content in real time on the device, continuously detecting signs of voice phishing. SK Telecom explained that, because call data does not pass through a server, this approach allows for safe detection without concerns about information leakage.

AI Voice Phishing Detection can be used through the A.Dot Call app on Android devices, and through the "Call" menu in the A.Dot App on iOS devices. To use the feature, users must activate "AI Voice Phishing Detection" in the "AI Security" menu under "Settings."

For Android devices, the A.Dot Call app is available on SK Telecom-branded devices where it is pre-installed, while on iOS, the feature is not supported in the default phone app.

Additionally, SK Telecom has made it possible for users to quickly check contact information for relevant reporting agencies by entering keywords such as "voice phishing" or "smishing" in the "Search" screen.

Cho Hyundeok, Head of A.Dot Call at SK Telecom, stated, "Following the addition of 'AI Message' in September, which detects and warns of suspected spam and phishing messages, we have now added AI Voice Phishing Detection to further enhance the security of A.Dot Call. We will continue to advance AI-based security features to ensure that our customers always enjoy a safe and convenient calling experience."
