Rallies Held Across Downtown Seoul Ahead of First Anniversary of Martial Law

On November 29, just four days before the first anniversary of the December 3 Martial Law, rallies were held throughout downtown Seoul.


The Liberty Unification Party, led by Pastor Jun Kwanghoon of Sarang Jeil Church, held the "Gwanghwamun National Rally for the Restoration of Free Korea" near Gwanghwamun Square in Jongno District that afternoon. According to unofficial police estimates, about 7,000 people gathered. Participants waved American and Korean flags and held placards with slogans such as "Lee Jaemyung Dictatorship."

From the podium, Pastor Jun announced plans for a large-scale rally on January 18 next year, the expiration date of former President Yoon Sukyeol's detention, stating, "We need 10 million people to gather in the square."


Around 3 p.m. the same day, another rally of about 1,000 people was held on Teheran-ro in Gangnam District, organized by Bellado and the New Freedom Solidarity. Participants marched to Seocho-dong, where the court is located, holding placards with slogans such as "Make Korea Great Again (MKGA)" and "Only Yoon Sukyeol."
