Mokpo City in South Jeolla Province is accelerating cooperation with central government ministries to secure special grants for the second half of this year. The city announced that on November 25, Acting Mayor and Deputy Mayor Joseok Hoon visited the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to explain major pending projects and request active support.
On that day, Acting Mayor Joseok Hoon met with Ha Jongmok, Director General of Local Finance, and Ji Yonggu, Director of the Grant Tax Division at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, emphasizing that special grants are essential to address urgent local issues.
During this visit, Mokpo City proposed a total of five key projects: the construction of a public garage at Bukhang, the establishment of a public parking tower at Peace Plaza, improvements to accessibility facilities at the International Football Center, functional enhancements to the Welfare Center for the Disabled, and the replacement of the fire curtain at the main performance hall of the Citizen Culture and Sports Center.
In particular, the city focused on explaining that the "construction of a public garage at Bukhang" is an essential infrastructure for stable vehicle management and smooth operation, as Mokpo City has been operating public buses directly and through consignment since January this year.
The city stressed that special grants are a practical financial resource to supplement the challenging local fiscal environment and stated its intention to continue working closely with central ministries and requesting support for pending projects.
A city official said, "In these difficult financial times, special grants are a precious resource, like rain during a drought," adding, "We will continue to do our utmost to secure the resources needed for regional development through proactive efforts."
