Okseon Lee, Chairperson of the Masanhappo District Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea in Changwon, Gyeongnam, has officially announced her candidacy for next year’s Changwon mayoral election.
On the 26th, Chairperson Lee held a press conference in front of the main entrance of Changwon City Hall and declared, “I am announcing my candidacy for Changwon mayor.”

She stated, “For the past 16 years, I have served as a Masan City Council member, a Unified Changwon City Council member, and a Gyeongnam Provincial Council member, always working for the lives of citizens and the development of the region. However, over the past three years, trust in city administration has collapsed and citizens’ lives have been pushed aside due to the mayor’s trial, lack of communication, and organizational instability in Changwon.”
She continued, “I sincerely apologize that the Democratic Party has not provided sufficient oversight and monitoring. Guided by the pragmatism of President Lee Jaemyung and the vision for local autonomy of Local Era Committee Chairperson Kim Kyungsoo, I will open a new path together with citizens for Changwon to take off once again.”
She also said, “My political roots have always been in the field. I have focused on making real changes for citizens and the future of the region through projects such as the Jinjeoncheon stream maintenance project, reducing tolls on the Machang Bridge, normalizing Robot Land, the youth traffic safety ordinance, laundry services for workers’ uniforms, and improving rest areas for sanitation workers. These will become the standards I promise for Changwon’s administration.”

Chairperson Lee pledged, “I will preserve the achievements of the previous administration and boldly correct its mistakes and arbitrariness. Changwon must move beyond being merely an industrial city to become a city where people want to live and a city of culture and humanities. To achieve this, I will manage city affairs more humbly and passionately together with citizens.”
She also promised to: ▲ Build a 1 million population megacity ▲ Create a future industry ecosystem ▲ Innovatively develop public land in the Masan Marine New City ▲ Establish a regional economic revitalization foundation ▲ Advance urban agriculture to the sixth industrial level and attract an international horticultural expo ▲ Transition Changwon to a carbon-neutral city with green transportation ▲ Create a second greenway, including the Gwangryeocheon and abandoned Imhang Line railway ▲ Form a Changwon Citizens’ Assembly ▲ Expand all-day care services.
She said, “I will make Changwon a city where the lives of one million citizens continue and sustainable growth is ensured, through competence.”
