Stranded for Nearly Nine Hours Atop Crane Hook
Barefoot and Without Any Safety Equipment During Rescue
In Israel, a teenage boy was narrowly rescued from a structure atop a 300-meter-high crane. Although it is not known how the boy, who was not wearing any protective gear, managed to climb up to the structure, he reportedly said he "wanted to see the view." On November 25, Yonhap News, citing the Israeli media outlet Times of Israel, reported that rescue workers safely rescued a boy who had been stranded for nearly nine hours on a crane hook near a 36-story high-rise building in Jerusalem. The boy, estimated to be 15 years old, is believed to have been there since around midnight the previous day.
Photos from the rescue scene show that the boy had no safety equipment and was not even wearing shoes. He was found sitting on a narrow structure atop the crane hook that connects the crane to its cargo, with no protective gear. The rescue workers climbed up the crane and then used a pulley system to approach the boy. After receiving a helmet and harness, the boy put them on and was safely brought down to the ground.
Shai Nehemia, the fire and rescue commander who led the operation at the scene, said, "The rescue was extremely complicated due to the great height and the angle at which the crane was positioned, which made it difficult for the rescue team to approach." Fortunately, the boy suffered only minor abrasions and symptoms of dehydration, but his overall health was relatively good. When asked why he climbed the crane, he reportedly said he "wanted to enjoy the scenery." However, it is still unknown how the boy managed to reach the structure without any equipment.
