The bereaved family has announced that Kim Kyunghak, a folk artist and one of the bereaved families of the December 29 Jeju Air passenger plane disaster, passed away on the 23rd. He was 63 years old.


The funeral was held on the 25th at Geumam Catholic Church in Noan-myeon, Naju, Jeonnam, attended by family and acquaintances.

Kim was the father of the late Kim Aerin, a KBS reporter and a victim of the accident. Despite suffering from a long-term illness, he continued to stage solo protests across the country, including in Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Seoul, demanding a thorough investigation and punishment for those responsible. It is reported that he continued his appeals for the truth at the scene even as his health deteriorated recently.


He also used his artistic talents to run art therapy programs, providing significant support to other bereaved families.


Kim Yujin, head of the Bereaved Families Association of the December 29 Jeju Air Disaster, said, "He fought to the end despite his illness, but it is heartbreaking that he passed away without knowing the truth. We will carry on his wishes together with the remaining bereaved families."
