Since establishing a “one school, one village” sisterhood relationship with Seonri Village in 2008, Dong-Eui Science University has continuously supported farm work and environmental clean-up activities during harvest season and other periods of high labor demand, maintaining ongoing cooperative efforts for mutual growth with the local community.
A total of 36 students and faculty members participated in this volunteer activity, helping to address the labor shortage in rural areas through various tasks on the village’s communal farmland, including apple harvesting and packaging, maintenance of agricultural waterways, and environmental clean-up around the village.
Lee Yongjun, a student in the Department of Physical Therapy who took part in the volunteer work, said, “Some of the tasks were difficult, but it was rewarding to experience the rural environment firsthand. If I have the opportunity, I would like to continue offering my help.”
President Kim Youngdo stated, “It is significant that students developed a sense of empathy by directly experiencing the importance of agriculture and the realities of rural life. We will continue to expand various social contribution programs that enable us to grow together with the local community.”
