People Power Party Election Planning Team: "Clear Stance on 70% Party Member Vote"... Jang Donghyuk: "Promise to Expand Party Member Rights"

"Expanding the Party Base Is Also the Biggest Task in the Local Elections"

The People Power Party has reaffirmed its position to raise the proportion of party member votes to 70% in the upcoming local election primaries.

On the 25th, Assemblywoman Cho Jiyeon, spokesperson for the People Power Party's Local Election General Planning Team, met with reporters after a joint meeting with incumbent mayors, county heads, and district chiefs, and stated, "The planning team's position on the 7 to 3 ratio (70% party member votes, 30% public opinion poll) is clear."

The planning team had previously announced its intention to adjust the primary rules, which had reflected party sentiment and public sentiment equally at a 50 to 50 ratio, to a new ratio of 70 to 30, respectively. To incorporate this into the party constitution and regulations, it must go through approval by the Supreme Council, followed by the Standing National Committee and the National Committee procedures.

During the meeting, it was reported that some heads of basic local governments cited the Democratic Party's strengthening of the rights of dues-paying party members as a cautionary example and expressed the opinion that the proportion reflecting public sentiment should be increased further.

Assemblywoman Cho emphasized, "This local election faces the dual challenge of maximally reflecting public sentiment while also expanding the party's weak base," adding, "Strengthening the party's roots is also the most important task for the local elections."

In this regard, Jang Donghyuk, representative of the People Power Party, met with reporters after visiting the birthplace of former President Park Chunghee in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, and regarding the planning team's proposal to change the primary rules, stated, "Ultimately, the Nomination Management Committee will make the final decision," but also expressed his agreement on increasing the party member vote ratio by saying, "As party leader, I have emphasized party identity and have promised to expand party member rights."

Meanwhile, at the meeting, the planning team decided to propose to the party leadership a measure to require each party chapter to nominate at least one young talent in order to recruit more young professionals.
