At approximately 9:37 a.m. on November 25, a fire broke out on the third floor of a 15-story apartment building in Buk-myeon, Uichang-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam Province.
An elderly woman in her 80s, who was a resident on the third floor, died in the fire.
Six people-including a man in his 30s, two women in their 50s, a man in his 50s, a man in his 70s, and a woman in her 90s-sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital.
Three residents escaped on their own, while 20 others were rescued and evacuated by 119 emergency responders.
During the fire, a neighbor reportedly heard a 'bang' and ran down to the first floor, where they witnessed black smoke outside the building.
Firefighters who responded to the scene deployed 79 personnel and 26 pieces of equipment, and fully extinguished the blaze by around 10:10 a.m. that day.
The police and fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
