Former and current public officials of Changwon City and Changwon City Council in Gyeongnam, along with travel agency employees, have been referred to the prosecution on charges of inflating overseas business trip expenses.
On November 25, Changwon Jungbu Police Station announced that a total of 13 individuals-including 9 former and current public officials from Changwon City and Changwon City Council, as well as travel agency employees-were investigated and sent to the prosecution on charges of occupational breach of trust.
According to the police, the suspects are accused of causing financial losses to the city council and other entities by inflating airfare expenses by approximately 27.4 million won during four overseas business trips that took place between 2022 and 2024, and excessively claiming travel expenses.
Among them, 9 former and current public officials were found to have used the inflated travel expenses for themselves or for city council members’ travel costs.
No criminal allegations have been confirmed against the city council members involved.
The police launched the investigation in March at the request of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission and referred the case to the prosecution at the end of last month.
