Urging Vaccination and Personal Hygiene Practices
The Jeongeup City Public Health Center in North Jeolla Province has urged citizens to exercise particular caution, noting that the spread of influenza (the flu) for the 2025-2026 season is accelerating more rapidly than in previous years.
According to the health center on November 21, this year’s influenza cases are increasing across all age groups, but the incidence rate is relatively higher among children and adolescents who primarily participate in group activities such as attending school.
The health center has strengthened its disease prevention safety net by closely monitoring for potential outbreaks and maintaining a continuous surveillance system. In addition, it is actively promoting adherence to influenza prevention guidelines in order to minimize community transmission.
Influenza is a common acute respiratory infectious disease that occurs most frequently from November to April each year. It is characterized by symptoms such as sudden high fever, cough, and sore throat.
In particular, individuals aged 65 and older are considered high-risk and require special attention, as they are more likely to develop severe complications such as pneumonia.
To prevent influenza, the health center recommends: ▲ getting vaccinated ▲ following personal hygiene practices and proper cough etiquette ▲ avoiding crowded places or wearing a mask when visiting such locations ▲ and refraining from attending school or work and taking sufficient rest if symptoms are suspected.
Son Heekyung, Director of the Public Health Center, stated, "Considering the current trend of influenza cases, there is a high possibility of a significant outbreak this winter, so thorough preparation is necessary. We ask all citizens to follow respiratory infection prevention guidelines for a healthy winter, and especially encourage those aged 65 and older and other high-risk groups to actively participate in vaccination."
