Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced that it is swiftly taking follow-up measures regarding the grounding accident of the Queen Zenobia II that occurred on the night of November 19 in the waters off Sinan County, South Jeolla Province. These measures include confirming the safety of all passengers and addressing the gap in passenger ferry service.
All passengers were safely transferred by the Coast Guard and other authorities, and no serious injuries or casualties have been reported.
The grounded passenger ferry was towed by a tugboat and successfully docked at the Samhak Temporary Terminal at around 2:20 a.m. on November 20. The vessel will undergo inspections by relevant agencies, including the Korean Register, before commencing repairs.
To minimize disruptions in ferry service caused by the accident, Jeju Province plans to adjust the operating hours of the currently running Queen Zenobia ferry. The schedule will be flexibly extended from the existing 6:00 a.m.-1:45 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.-4:45 p.m. to reduce inconvenience for passengers.
Oh Sangpil, Director of the Jeju Provincial Department of Oceans and Fisheries, stated, "We will do our utmost to ensure passenger safety and provide smooth passenger transportation by closely cooperating with the Coast Guard, the operation control center, ferry operators, and other relevant agencies."
