Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Development Corporation (President Baek Kyunghoon), which produces and distributes Jeju Samdasoo, won the National Quality Award in three categories at the 51st National Quality Management Convention held at COEX in Seoul on the 19th.
The Jeju Development Corporation was selected as an Excellent Company in Quality Competitiveness for the fourth consecutive year and received a total of six Presidential Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards in six categories at the National Quality Innovation Competition. In addition, Ko Byungsoo, Head of the Samdasoo Production Division, and Han Donghoon, Manager of the Production Planning Team, were recognized for their individual achievements in quality management by receiving the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award, thereby highlighting both institutional and individual accomplishments.
The National Quality Management Convention is a government award event hosted and organized by the National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korean Standards Association. It recognizes outstanding companies, individuals, and quality circles that have contributed to enhancing national industrial competitiveness through quality innovation.
The Excellent Company in Quality Competitiveness designation is a system that selects companies with outstanding overall quality management capabilities, including quality innovation, customer satisfaction, and management performance. Jeju Development Corporation became the first in the bottled water industry to receive this honor for four consecutive years.
Jeju Samdasoo has established a scientific and systematic management system, including research on the preservation and management of water sources and studies on groundwater level and quality, to ensure the quality of its water sources. In particular, the company monitors both the quantity and quality of water in real time through 113 groundwater observation networks surrounding the water source, effectively blocking potential sources of contamination. Jeju Samdasoo also continues to renew global certifications in quality, food safety, safety, and environment across all aspects of its management, earning high marks for quality innovation and customer satisfaction.
In the Quality Circle category, Jeju Development Corporation participated in the National Quality Innovation Competition, which was held in Seogwipo, Jeju, for five days starting August 25, and won awards in six categories: Gold for "Union" and "Volcanic Rock," Silver for "Challenge" and "Excellence," and Bronze for "Nothing" and "Smooth Sailing." Notably, Jeju Development Corporation set a record by winning the Presidential Gold Award for six consecutive years, and on November 4, participated as part of the Korean delegation in the International Convention on Quality Control Circles (ICQCC), where it received the Gold Award. This demonstrates the excellence of Jeju Samdasoo's small group activities in both domestic and international quality competitions.
Ko Byungsoo, Head of the Samdasoo Production Division, who received the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award in the individual category for quality management, was recognized for establishing an eco-friendly production system through the implementation of a label-free product production system and QR code integration, as well as for contributing to the reduction of plastic waste by making Jeju Samdasoo bottles lighter.
Han Donghoon, Manager of the Production Planning Team, also received the same award for his contributions to establishing a production system based on the use of recycled materials and, as the head of the quality circle division, for achieving outstanding results in both domestic and international quality circle competitions, thereby demonstrating the superior quality of Jeju Samdasoo.
