At around 8:17 p.m. on the 19th, a report was received that a passenger ferry had run aground near Jangsan Island in Jangsan-myeon, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do. The ferry was carrying 267 people, including 246 passengers and 21 crew members, and was en route from Jeju to Mokpo. On the evening of the 19th, at approximately 8:10 PM, Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-joong issued an urgent directive to relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Korea Coast Guard, Jeollanam-do Province, and Sinan-gun, regarding the report of a passenger ferry running aground off the coast of Sinan, Jeollanam-do. He ordered, "Deploy all available vessels and equipment to rescue the passengers quickly and safely."
Minister Yoon also emphasized, "Thoroughly monitor the weather and sea conditions in the accident area to ensure that secondary accidents do not occur."
Earlier, a passenger ferry carrying 267 people-246 passengers and 21 crew members-departed from Jeju and was heading to Mokpo when it ran aground near Jangsan Island, Sinan-gun. The coast guard and other agencies have launched rescue operations for the passengers and crew.
