"Prime Minister Kim's Direct Election Interference... Call for Election Commission Investigation"
On November 18, Seoul Metropolitan Council members from the People Power Party called on the National Election Commission to investigate Prime Minister Kim Minseok, stating, "Focusing on tarnishing Mayor Oh Sehoon is a blatant act of government interference in the election."
Bae Hyunjin, Chair of the Seoul Metropolitan Chapter, along with council members Cho Eunhee, Park Sumin, Ko Dongjin, and a total of 11 People Power Party Seoul council members, held a press conference at the National Assembly on the same day. They said, "Prime Minister Kim is constantly following Seoul’s policies, from Area 4 in front of Jongmyo to the Han River bus and the Garden of Gratitude honoring the countries that participated in the Korean War."
They further criticized, "He does not hesitate to engage in typical government-led election interference, but is nowhere to be seen at sites where he should be safeguarding the lives, safety, and livelihoods of the people, such as the E-Land fire scene. Is Prime Minister Kim a stalker of Mayor Oh, or is he once again a candidate for Seoul Mayor?"
They continued, "Citizens are deeply concerned that a Prime Minister who treats local elections as a mere item on his bucket list and seeks attention might bring Seoul’s progress to a halt. We will closely monitor Prime Minister Kim, who is neglecting his duties and only circling the election scene, and will hold him accountable to the end."
With the local elections scheduled for June next year, they also expressed their determination to defend the Seoul mayoralty. Chair Bae stated, "Through the activities of the Seoul Metropolitan Chapter’s Special Committee on Normalizing the Housing Ladder, we will create events that reflect the voices of ordinary citizens, not just one-off election stunts. There may be only 11 People Power Party council members in Seoul, but we will do everything to defend the capital."
Council member Park added, "Due to the government’s real estate policies and the Daejang-dong group’s decision to forgo their appeal, public sentiment in Seoul has already shifted. For this reason, the government, now at a disadvantage, has begun attacking Mayor Oh. We will prove Mayor Oh’s role to the people."
