Prosecutors Seek Eight-Year Prison Sentence for "Ma Dongseok Team" Phishing Ring Member

Prosecutors have requested an eight-year prison sentence for a member of a phishing ring who, under the direction of a ringleader known by the alias "Ma Dongseok," carried out a romance scam operation in Cambodia.

On November 18, during the final hearing held by the 15th Criminal Division of the Seoul Eastern District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Yanghun), prosecutors asked the court to sentence Jeong (24) to eight years in prison on charges including membership in a criminal organization.

According to prosecutors, Jeong worked as a call center agent at the "Hanya Call Center," a voice phishing organization established by a foreign ringleader known as Ma Dongseok. From September last year to May this year, Jeong is accused of participating in the theft of approximately 500 million won from 11 victims.

In her final statement, Jeong pleaded, "I am currently pregnant, and as a mother-to-be, I deeply regret my wrongdoing."

The sentencing for Jeong is scheduled for December 19.
