Busan Institute to Host '2025 Manifesto Resilient City Conference'

Local Government Leaders and Experts Gather under the Theme of "Urban Sustainability and Resilience"

The Busan Institute is set to co-host the '2025 Manifesto Resilient City Conference (2025 MRC in Busan)' with the Korea Manifesto Action Headquarters on November 19 at Exhibition Hall 1 of BEXCO in Busan.


This conference, held under the theme of 'Urban Sustainability and Resilience,' will serve as a comprehensive forum attended by heads of local governments from across the country, directors of municipal research institutes, as well as public officials and experts in disaster safety, climate and environmental policy, and population policy.


The opening ceremony will feature a welcoming address by Lee Kwangjae, Secretary General of the Korea Manifesto Action Headquarters, and a congratulatory speech by Heo Yoonsu, Acting President of the Busan Institute. In the keynote speech, Busan Mayor Park Hyungjoon will present strategies to strengthen urban resilience under the theme 'Building a 15-Minute City Together in Busan.' Mayor Park will introduce the vision of a '15-Minute City for Happy Citizens,' which includes the creation of 15-minute living zones, digital and ecological transformation using smart and carbon-neutral technologies, and the revitalization of communities through citizen participation.


In the afternoon, four thematic sessions will be held: Urban Shocks and Resilience; Urban Stress and Resilience; Future Engines of Resilient Cities; and Spaces and Citizens for Resilient Cities. In the 'Urban Shocks and Resilience' session, chaired by Heo Yoonsu, Acting President of the Busan Institute, Yoon Youngbae, Research Fellow at the Ulsan Institute, will present cases of cities certified as 'Disaster Resilience-Centered Cities,' while Kim Kiuk, Senior Research Fellow at the Busan Institute, will introduce efforts and challenges to strengthen disaster resilience in Busan.


Heo Yoonsu, Acting President of the Busan Institute, stated, "This conference will be a significant opportunity to discuss resilience policies in response to urban crises such as disasters, population decline, and the climate crisis, and to build a cooperative network among local governments."
