The event was attended by County Governor Jeong Jongbok, heads of departments responsible for forest fire prevention, 23 members of the specialized forest fire prevention and suppression team, and 41 forest fire monitors. Appointment letters were awarded to the chief of forest fire response and the leaders of the suppression teams.
The event continued with a slogan recitation reaffirming the county's commitment to forest preservation under the theme "Forest-Connected Happy City, Gijang County," followed by practical training focused on forest fire prevention and suppression manuals, as well as raising safety awareness.
With this event as a starting point, Gijang County has set the prevention of forest fire causes as its core goal and is implementing a comprehensive forest fire prevention plan to prepare for the dry season that continues from autumn through the following spring. "Forest Fire Prevention Headquarters" have been established at the main county office and in five towns and townships to strengthen the prevention, monitoring, and initial response system.
The county has designated and manages 4,979 hectares-34.3% of its total forest area-as restricted access zones, and has deployed 41 forest fire monitors and 23 specialized prevention and suppression team members to forest-adjacent areas to intensify mobile patrols. Through these efforts, the county will continuously monitor for illegal burning, strictly control access to restricted zones, and conduct thorough prevention activities such as crackdowns on setting fires.
The county has designated burning activities near forests, which account for a significant portion of forest fire causes, as the "highest priority for enforcement," and will strengthen patrols in fire-prone areas to eradicate illegal burning. Violators will face strict penalties, including fines.
County Governor Jeong Jongbok stated, "We will proactively respond to forest fire risks by strengthening public awareness campaigns and mobile patrols in vulnerable areas," and urged, "We ask all residents to strictly refrain from illegal burning and to actively cooperate to minimize forest fire damage."
