AlphaChips Signs Industry-Academia-Research MOU for Defense and AI Semiconductor Research

AlphaChips, a semiconductor design specialist, announced on the 17th that it has signed an industry-academia-research mutual cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) for defense and AI semiconductor research with Chonnam National University Intelligent Defense Unmanned Systems Research Institute, Gwangju Technopark, defense innovation company Quopin, and edge AI neural processing unit (NPU) developer edgeAI.

This agreement was promoted as part of defense research projects being conducted by Chonnam National University, including the Glocal Lab, Defense Industry Innovation Cluster, and Defense Industry One-Stop Support Center. Its goals are to create an R&D ecosystem for defense and AI semiconductor convergence, strengthen the foundation for technological self-reliance, and promote regional innovation-driven growth.

Through this agreement, the five organizations plan to engage in various collaborative activities, including: joint research in the fields of defense and AI semiconductors; academic and research information exchange; mutual utilization of research facilities, personnel, and resources; operation of talent development and industry-academia cooperation programs; and participation in joint programs with domestic and international research institutions.

Kim Ilgon, Executive Vice President of AlphaChips, said, "We are strengthening cooperation with universities, research institutes, and innovative companies so that AI semiconductor technology can open up new possibilities in the defense sector," adding, "We will take the lead in achieving technological self-reliance and securing industrial competitiveness through investment in related technology development and industry-academia-research collaboration."

AlphaChips recorded sales of 25.24965 billion won and operating profit of 1.47176 billion won in the third quarter of this year.
