According to a report by Yonhap News Agency, Hwang began his life as an international student in Osaka in 2014, when he was a first-year high school student, after his father was assigned to work in Japan. Despite having to start school in a new cultural and linguistic environment as a teenager, he quickly adapted and focused on his studies.

After graduating from the Faculty of Law at Keio University, Hwang entered the Graduate School of Law at Osaka University, where he is currently enrolled in the Japanese law school program. During his university years, he briefly returned to Korea to complete his mandatory military service, then went back to Japan to begin full-scale preparations for the bar exam. The Japanese bar exam is known locally as an "extremely challenging test" due to its very low pass rate.

In an interview, Hwang recalled, "The biggest challenge was having to quickly acquire language proficiency in order to deeply understand Japanese case law and legal philosophy during my relatively short period of studying abroad." He added, "I plan to gain practical experience as a lawyer in Japan before carefully deciding on my long-term career path."

This achievement is seen as significant not only as a personal accomplishment but also for Korean students studying law abroad. Since the Japanese bar exam is considered to have particularly high entry barriers for foreigners, Hwang's success story is attracting attention from both the legal community and the student community in Korea and abroad.
