Pohang and Gwangyang, Sister Cities in Steel Industry, Strengthen Mutual Cooperation with Reciprocal Donations for Two Consecutive Years

Warm gestures continue for the second consecutive year.


On the 14th, Pohang City received a total of approximately 110 million won in hometown love donations from the Gwangyang Steelworks Partner Association and its 12 member companies.

This donation, following last year’s, once again reaffirmed the strong friendship and commitment to mutual prosperity between the two cities of Pohang and Gwangyang, both of which have grown based on the steel industry.


At the donation ceremony held at the External Cooperation Office of Pohang City Hall, the Gwangyang Steelworks Partner Association (led by Chairman Jung Hyunsoo) contributed 5 million won from the executive board and 1.1 million won from all employees, totaling 6.1 million won. In addition, 12 member companies participated, resulting in a total donation exceeding 100 million won.


Among them, representatives of the following companies attended in person to demonstrate their commitment to their hometowns: Posplate (CEO Jung Hyunsoo) donated 12.2 million won, Jeongwon (CEO Park Dongmyung) donated 5 million won, Daejin (CEO Choi Seokchan) donated 3.2 million won, and Sinjin Enterprise (CEO Kim Yuncheol) donated 7.4 million won.


Jung Hyunsoo, Chairman of the Gwangyang Steelworks Partner Association, stated, "Pohang and Gwangyang are sister cities that have grown together through the steel industry. I hope this donation will further deepen the cooperative relationship and friendship between the two cities. We will continue to promote a culture of sharing in the local community through hometown love donations."


Pohang Mayor Lee Kangdeok expressed his gratitude, saying, "I deeply appreciate the executive board and employees of the Gwangyang Steelworks Partner Association and its member companies for extending their warm support to Pohang City for the second consecutive year. This donation is a prime example of mutual cooperation, with both cities supporting and growing together."


Pohang and Gwangyang, as each other's first sister cities, have continued active exchanges based on their shared foundation in the steel industry. In particular, the executive board and employees of the Gwangyang Steelworks Partner Association have made generous donations exceeding 100 million won to Pohang for two consecutive years.


In response, the executive board and member companies of the Pohang Steelworks Partner Association also donate hometown love funds to Gwangyang every year, further strengthening the friendship and spirit of mutual cooperation between the two cities.
