Kim Dongyeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, stated on the 14th that President Lee Jaemyung's commitment to the development of land returned by the US Forces Korea has once again been reaffirmed, adding that the land of opportunity in northern Gyeonggi will undergo significant changes.
In a message posted on his social media on this day, Governor Kim said, "President Lee Jaemyung visited Paju to listen to the voices of the people in northern Gyeonggi. I am grateful and warmly welcome him."
He continued, "Today, I also had a valuable opportunity to hear the honest stories of northern residents through a town hall meeting. In particular, I was able to once again confirm the strong commitment of the Lee Jaemyung administration to the development of land returned by the US Forces Korea."
He further pledged, "Gyeonggi Province will also provide active support to ensure that the returned land becomes a game changer for the development of northern Gyeonggi. Together with the government, we will continue our efforts to improve the quality of life for 3.7 million residents in northern Gyeonggi, including the establishment of a public hospital in the northeast, as well as improvements in medical, environmental, cultural, and transportation infrastructure."
He added, "The land of opportunity and hope, northern Gyeonggi, will change."
Earlier, President Lee Jaemyung recalled at a town hall meeting held in Paju on the same day, "During my three years as Governor of Gyeonggi Province, there were quite a few things I wished I could have accomplished but could not due to a lack of authority. In particular, regarding the issue of handling returned land, I saw that if the government paid just a bit more attention, there were several solutions, but it was truly regrettable that progress was not made."
He also said, "Not only is the issue of returned land a problem, but since this is a border area, there have been many unjust situations due to various military regulations. In places like Namyangju and Gapyeong, people have suffered a lot from water source regulations without receiving any benefits, and I am sure there are many who feel this is unfair."
President Lee stated, "Now, I am finally in a position where I can handle all these issues at once. It is gratifying that each ministry can quickly coordinate and, if something is reasonable and necessary, it can be addressed promptly."
