Delivering District News in an Easy and Entertaining Way
Gwangjin District in Seoul (District Mayor Kim Kyungho) announced on November 13 that its serialized webtoon "Gwangjin Hope Toon," created to deliver district news in an easy and entertaining way, has surpassed 120 episodes and marked its fifth anniversary.
Launched in 2020, "Gwangjin Hope Toon" features cute and friendly characters, including the district mascots "Gwang-i" and "Jin-i," to explain various policies and everyday information in an accessible manner. The series has established itself as a unique communication channel for Gwangjin District.
The webtoon is created by artists selected through the "Seoul Attractive Jobs Project," adding creativity and expertise to local promotion efforts. Based on an understanding of district policies, the creators carefully select and introduce essential information from the perspective of actual residents and young people, focusing on content that is truly helpful in daily life.
The series has repeatedly covered practical topics such as "How to Separate and Dispose of Waste" and "Tips to Prevent Jeonse Fraud," which have drawn significant public interest, providing residents with detailed guidance they can apply immediately. In addition, it shares valuable information on welfare, education, and daily conveniences-topics that are often overlooked-earning positive feedback from the community.
Gwangjin District’s webtoon promotion project goes beyond content creation, contributing to job creation and capacity building for young creators. So far, 12 creators have participated in producing "Gwangjin Hope Toon," providing a stepping stone for their growth into professional webtoon artists.
The initiative is recognized as a win-win model, offering young artists opportunities for advancement and residents fresh, relatable content. Thanks to these achievements, it was selected as an outstanding project in this year’s comprehensive evaluation of the Seoul Attractive Jobs Project. The district’s promotional webtoons are available at all times on the Gwangjin District website’s "Gwangjin Hope Toon" section, the Gwangjin District Naver Blog, and the Gwangjin District Instagram account.
Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin District, stated, "By presenting administrative information-which can often feel difficult-in the form of webtoons, we are able to connect more closely with our residents. We will continue to deliver administrative news that people want to see, capturing policies closely related to residents’ lives from fresh and innovative perspectives."
