US President Donald Trump signed an amendment to the short-term spending bill, which had passed the US Congress, in the Oval Office at the White House on the 12th (local time). With this, the federal government shutdown-the longest in history at 43 days-was officially brought to an end. As the shutdown was lifted, federal agencies resumed normal operations, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for low-income households, which had been suspended, was also reinstated.
