Scalise, House Republican Leader, Speaks in CNBC Interview
The United States House of Representatives will hold a vote on November 12 (local time) in the afternoon to end the federal government shutdown (temporary suspension of government work).
Steve Scalise, House Republican Leader, told CNBC that the vote is scheduled for around 7 p.m., with procedural steps beginning between 4 and 5 p.m. and the vote on the government budget bill taking place slightly later. He emphasized, "There will be a great and in-depth debate, but above all, it is extremely important to resolve the issue."
Previously, on November 10, the Senate passed a temporary budget bill for fiscal year 2026 to end the shutdown. Now, only the House vote and President Donald Trump's signature remain for the shutdown to be lifted. Since the Republican Party holds a majority in the House, the budget bill is expected to pass smoothly. As a result, the shutdown, which has become the longest in U.S. history at 43 days as of today, is likely to be resolved.
Due to this shutdown, all federal government work except for essential personnel was suspended, resulting in unpaid salaries for government employees, suspension of food assistance for low-income families, flight delays and cancellations, and various other damages. The shutdown crisis is now being resolved as moderate Democratic senators in the Senate cast their votes in favor of the Republican proposal.
