47th Anniversary of the Natural Protection Charter Proclamation
On November 12, Changwon Special City in South Gyeongsang Province held the 47th Anniversary of the Natural Protection Charter Proclamation and the 13th Changwon Mayor's Natural Protection Competition at the Nature Love Learning Center.
The Changwon Mayor's Natural Protection Competition is an annual event organized to commemorate the proclamation day of the Natural Protection Charter (October 5, 1978), to recognize those who have contributed to nature conservation, and to raise public awareness and voluntary participation in protecting nature.
The event was attended by around 220 people, including members of the Nature Conservation Council, city council members, and public officials. The first part of the ceremony included an opening declaration, a reading of the Natural Protection Charter, presentation of awards, and a reading of the resolution. A total of 43 individuals who contributed to nature conservation were recognized with awards from the Changwon Special City Mayor and members of the National Assembly, in appreciation of their dedication and efforts.
In the second part, council members participated in environmental plogging activities to help clean up the local environment, and reflected on the significance of nature conservation in daily life through hands-on experiences at environmental booths.
Gong Haengsik, President of the Changwon City Council of the Nature Conservation Federation, stated, "I hope this event serves as an opportunity for citizens to once again realize the importance of living in harmony with nature," adding, "We will continue to uphold the spirit of the Natural Protection Charter and systematically promote nature conservation activities tailored to the needs of our community."
Lee Yujeong, Director of the Climate and Environment Bureau, remarked, "This event was a meaningful occasion to reaffirm our commitment to preserving the natural environment and to encourage citizens to actively practice environmental protection." She further noted, "As the Nature Conservation Council plays a vital role in local environmental cleanups and carbon neutrality initiatives, the city will take the lead in environmental protection efforts alongside citizens and will continue to implement various policies and programs to create a sustainable ecological city."
