'Guro Munhwa Nuri' Complex Facility, Including Library, to Open in March Next Year
Guro Creative Culture and Arts Center Also in Operation
Guro District in Seoul, led by Mayor Jang Inhong, is accelerating efforts to expand multi-purpose spaces that encompass residents' learning and cultural activities. The district plans to directly operate the 'Guro Cultural Nuri Library,' which is scheduled to open in March next year, and aims to establish it as a hub for everyday cultural life.
On the 11th, Guro District in Seoul unveiled the 'Guro Cultural Nuri' site to reporters. Jang Inhong, the mayor of Guro District, introduced the direct operation of the library and the direction of district administration. Provided by Guro District.
'Guro Cultural Nuri,' built on the site of the former KBS Gaebong Transmission Station, is a multi-cultural facility with a total area of 7,856 square meters. The facility will house a library, a lifelong learning center, a youth lounge, and a local childcare center. From the first basement level to the fourth floor above ground, it will feature customized spaces for each age group, such as a children's reading room, a general collection room, lecture halls, and a multimedia room.
On November 11, Mayor Jang Inhong emphasized during a press conference, "Guro Cultural Nuri is not just a library, but a space where residents can gather, learn, and grow together," adding, "It will become a trusted hub for everyday cultural life, operated responsibly by the administration."
In particular, the library-at the heart of Guro Cultural Nuri-will introduce a smart library system, including unmanned lending and return kiosks, to provide advanced information services. As Guro District's first directly operated public library, it will enhance consistency and accountability in management. As of the end of last year, only three out of 176 libraries in Seoul, including Mapo Central Library and Sogeumnaru Library, were directly operated. The district is also working to establish a 'library network' to promote resource sharing among local libraries and foster a reading culture.
Previously, in May, Guro District held the opening ceremony for the 'Guro Creative Culture & Arts Center' (416 Gyeongin-ro), officially launching it as a hub for creative and convergent education related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This center, with a total floor area of 3,496 square meters, features a disaster safety experience center, a learning support center, and a multipurpose auditorium on its four above-ground floors. It offers hands-on education in new technologies such as drones, robotics, coding, and video editing for local youth.
Mayor Jang stated, "Through the Guro Creative Culture & Arts Center, local youth and residents can directly experience cutting-edge technologies and develop creative and convergent capabilities," adding, "We will continue to expand the foundation for creative education in the future."
Set to open officially in March after a pilot operation in January next year, Guro Cultural Nuri-together with the already opened Guro Creative Culture & Arts Center-will serve as a core platform for realizing the resident-centered 'Guro-style Basic Society' administrative philosophy. These centers are expected to become starting points for urban transformation through learning and community engagement.
