Gumi City Launches Final Push to Secure 2026 Government Budget

Meetings with Key National Assembly Members and Ministry of Economy and Finance Officials During Government Budget Review
All-Out Administrative Efforts to Secure a Foundation for Local Economic Growth Until the Final Stage

On November 11, Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province visited the National Assembly, which is currently reviewing the government budget proposal, to request national funding for the smooth implementation of key local projects. The city has launched a full-scale effort to secure next year's government budget.

First, city officials met with local National Assembly members Koo Jageun and Kang Myungku to discuss ways the National Assembly can cooperate to secure national funding for major projects that have been pursued since the beginning of the year.

They then met with Park Hyungsu, Secretary of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, and Im Miae, a member of the subcommittee, to explain in detail the necessity of addressing local issues and the justification for major projects, requesting special attention and support for budget allocation.

In addition, they met directly with Lim Gigun, Second Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and other officials from the Budget Office to emphasize the need for national funding and the importance of core local projects. They also requested that administrative and financial support continue until the National Assembly's budget review is complete.

The main projects Gumi City emphasized in its proposals include: the Gumi-Gunwi Expressway, the establishment of Donggumi Station, the regeneration of the aging Gumi National Industrial Complex No. 3 [including a connecting bridge between Industrial Complexes No. 1 to No. 3], the construction of the National Museum of Korean History (Gumi Industrialization History Museum), the establishment of a demand-driven battery testbed, and the creation of a manufacturing start-up incubator in Gumi City.

Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi, stated, "Now, as the budget review enters its final stage, is the decisive moment for Gumi's development. Since the beginning of this year, we have visited central government agencies and the National Assembly multiple times, and I will continue to focus all administrative efforts to ensure that the key projects that will drive the local economy's leap forward are included in next year's government budget."
