Muan County in South Jeolla Province (Mayor Kim San) has launched a comprehensive capacity-building initiative for all employees to attract and establish an RE100 (100% renewable energy) national industrial complex.
On November 11, the county announced that it held a special training session in the third-floor conference room of the county office, inviting Dr. Kim Junyoung from the Jeonnam Research Institute to deliver a lecture on the topic of "Strategies for Attracting and Establishing RE100 National Industrial Complexes." The purpose of this training was to enhance policy understanding of the RE100 industrial complex project and to share attraction strategies among all employees.
In his lecture, Dr. Kim introduced global RE100 trends and cases of domestic and international corporate participation, emphasizing that "RE100 is more than just an energy transition; it is a core competitive edge that determines the sustainability of the industrial ecosystem." He also added, "The RE100 industrial complex is a model of eco-friendly and high-efficiency industrial parks and will become a new growth engine for the local economy."
The lecture also discussed ways to establish a cooperative framework among the central government, South Jeolla Province, and Muan County. It highlighted that Muan County is emerging as the optimal location for the RE100 national industrial complex, based on its abundant renewable energy resources such as offshore wind and solar power, as well as its outstanding infrastructure, including Muan International Airport, the West Coast Expressway, and the planned opening of the KTX line.
Mayor Kim San stated, "The RE100 national industrial complex will serve as a key platform for attracting large-scale companies, creating quality jobs, and building a sustainable local economy," adding, "We will focus all administrative resources to ensure success in the competition to attract the complex."
Building on this training, the county plans to strengthen its cooperative system with the government and South Jeolla Province, expand public consensus among residents, and accelerate the development of practical strategies for establishing the complex.
