Donated 80 Million Won from 2018 to This Year
Busan-based local company Daesun Distilling Company has taken the lead in discovering talent to shape the future of Korean baseball for eight consecutive years, sponsoring the Choi Dongwon Award and prize money.
On November 11 at 2 p.m., Daesun Distilling Company announced that it presented a total prize of 10 million won to Shin Donggeon, the winner of the 8th Daesun High School Choi Dongwon Award, and to the baseball team of his school, Dongsan High School, at the 12th Choi Dongwon Award ceremony held at the main auditorium of Busan Bank headquarters. The total amount sponsored by Daesun Distilling Company to date has reached 80 million won.
The "Daesun High School Choi Dongwon Award" was established in 2018 with the support of Daesun Distilling Company, which has been committed to the development of Korean high school baseball. The award is given to the pitcher who demonstrates the most outstanding performance and embodies the spirit of Choi Dongwon each year. It aims to encourage high school pitchers to carry on the legacy of Choi Dongwon.

The criteria for candidates are as follows: participation in at least 15 games, pitching at least 50 innings, at least 4 wins, an earned run average (ERA) of 2.60 or lower, or at least 55 strikeouts. Shin Donggeon was selected as the final winner from among six candidates through a vote by scouts from the ten professional baseball teams.
As the honored recipient, Shin Donggeon showcased outstanding talent this year by appearing in 16 high school games, pitching 72.1 innings, achieving 8 wins, and recording an ERA of 0.88.
Shin Donggeon from Dongsan High School said, "Since I have received an award bearing the name of senior Choi Dongwon, I will do my best to grow into an excellent player like him."
Jo Woo-hyun, President and Chairman of the Choi Dongwon Memorial Foundation, emphasized, "We will continue to provide full support and encouragement so that high school baseball players with both excellent character and skills can inherit the shining spirit and fighting spirit of Korean baseball legend Choi Dongwon."
