Approximately 1,000 people attended the groundbreaking ceremony, including County Governor Sim Deokseop, North Jeolla Province Governor Kim Kwanyoung, Gochang County Council Chairman Cho Minkyu and council members, Dongbu Construction Vice Chairman Heo Sanghee, Mooyoung Architects & Engineers President Song Dogeun, HanmiGlobal President Kim Yongsik, and Samsung Electronics executives.

An Kyubaek, the Minister of National Defense and a native of Gochang, also shared a video message, stating, "This project represents a meaningful investment that will open a new chapter for Gochang and serve as a major turning point for the future of North Jeolla Province's industry."

The Samsung Electronics Smart Hub Complex will be built on a 181,625-square-meter site (equivalent to 25 soccer fields) within the Gochang New Vitality Industrial Complex. It will be developed as a state-of-the-art logistics center, integrating automation technologies and eco-friendly facilities.

The project aims to be completed by 2027. Upon completion, it is expected to create over 500 direct and indirect jobs and revitalize the industrial ecosystem in the southwestern region of North Jeolla Province.

Through this investment, Samsung Electronics plans to establish a large-scale, advanced logistics center in the Honam region, aiming to build a seamless logistics and distribution system in the southern area. While the initial investment agreement with Gochang County was set at 300 billion won, the total project cost increased to 350 billion won during the final design phase by Mooyoung Architects & Engineers and the construction confirmation by Dongbu Construction.

Notably, the Gochang Smart Hub Complex planned by Samsung Electronics is based on automation, making the integration and maintenance of various equipment key aspects. This is expected to naturally lead to a chain of investments and relocations by companies specializing in automation equipment such as robotics and conveyors.

During the construction period, there are also expectations for increased local consumption within Gochang through the construction company and its partners. Hundreds of construction workers, equipment, and partner company employees are being encouraged to use local accommodations, restaurants, gas stations, and other businesses in Gochang.

This is anticipated to create a virtuous cycle in which money earned in the region circulates back into the local economy, generating a positive ripple effect throughout the area. With the groundbreaking of the Samsung Electronics Smart Hub Complex, Gochang County expects to see full-scale business investments from companies attracted during the 8th popularly elected administration.

Previously, in February, G-Tech Co., Ltd., which signed a land sales contract for the New Vitality Industrial Complex, is headquartered in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. The company produces power semiconductor wafer materials and holds numerous related patents.

G-Tech Co., Ltd. plans to invest 2.1 billion won in a 39,010-square-meter (11,800 pyeong) site at the Gochang New Vitality Industrial Complex starting in the first half of next year. SB Food Co., Ltd., a food ingredient manufacturer, also began remodeling its facility in October, aiming to complete equipment installation by the end of the year.

SB Food Co., Ltd. has drawn attention as a food company that purchased the Gochu Integrated Distribution Center, which had previously become a local burden due to low operational efficiency, with the goal of revitalizing the local economy and creating jobs.

Sonogong Materials Co., Ltd., a company specializing in energy storage device materials, plans to invest 163 billion won in a 98,418.1-square-meter (29,711 pyeong) site at the Gochang New Vitality Industrial Complex by 2027, with plans to employ over 160 people and produce 25,000 tons of lithium carbonate annually.

County Governor Sim Deokseop stated, "This marks Samsung Electronics' first investment in North Jeolla Province and the official start of a large-scale project worth 350 billion won in Gochang. We will closely monitor on-site challenges and do our utmost to resolve issues, and I hope today's groundbreaking will serve as a catalyst for Gochang's future."

He added, "I ask for your warm interest and support for the new changes and progress that the region and businesses will create together."
