Goryeong County Selected for Field Crop Mechanization and Smart Farm Projects

Securing 3.2 Billion Won in Funding
Reducing Labor for Farmers and Supporting Stable Settlement for Young Farmers

Goryeong County in North Gyeongsang Province (Governor Lee Namcheol) has been selected for the 2026 'Outstanding Model Project for Field Crop Mechanization' and the 'City and County Strategic Project Support Program,' securing a total project budget of 3.2 billion won.

As a major garlic-producing region, Goryeong County applied for and was ultimately selected for the 2026 Outstanding Model Project for Field Crop Mechanization by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, which selects only six cities and counties nationwide.

Going forward, the county plans to purchase agricultural machinery to reduce labor during planting and harvesting seasons and provide it to local farms on a rental basis.

To this end, the county will conduct a demand survey through the Garlic Mechanization Council of four local agricultural cooperatives, purchase agricultural machinery suitable for farms, and provide it through a long-term rental system (five years). This is expected to reduce the financial burden of purchasing equipment and help stabilize labor and personnel costs.

Additionally, Goryeong County was selected for the City and County Strategic Project Support Program, a public contest project by North Gyeongsang Province.

This project aims to foster locally specialized crops, and Goryeong County was finally selected on November 4 after a written and presentation evaluation, based on its plan to install advanced Venlo-type smart farms.

Through this initiative, it is expected that young farmers will be able to gain experience in agricultural management at rental smart farms, accumulate capital, and establish stable models for settling in the local community through entrepreneurship.

An official from Goryeong County stated, "Expanding field crop mechanization and advanced smart farms is essential to address the aging rural population, labor shortages, and abnormal climate conditions. We will continue to focus on strengthening the competitiveness of garlic and onions and expanding the distribution of smart farms, which are key pledges of the 8th popularly elected administration."
