Expansion of Service Robot Applications
Now Reaching the Book Distribution Market
VD Robotics announced on November 10 that it has supplied its premium service robot, 'BellaBot', to the Gangnam branch of Kyobo Bookstore. This robot has been applied to Kyobo Bookstore's flagship 'BaroDream' service, and is expected to enhance store operation efficiency and significantly improve the customer experience.
The BellaBot introduced at Kyobo Bookstore Gangnam is responsible for transporting books between the counter and each book section, and has been fully deployed for the 'BaroDream' service. BaroDream is a service that allows customers to order books online or via a mobile app and pick them up immediately at the counter of an offline store.
Due to the large size of the Gangnam branch, before the introduction of the robot, staff had to frequently move between each book section and the counter to manually deliver books. Whenever an order was placed, the staff in charge of the relevant section would locate the book, bring it to the counter, and then return to their section, repeating this process throughout the day.
Since the introduction of VD Robotics' BellaBot, the BaroDream service has been automated. When BellaBot moves to the designated book section at the request of staff, the staff member loads the ordered book onto the robot. The robot then delivers the book to the counter, enabling book transfers without requiring staff to move back and forth. As a result, staff are now freed from repetitive delivery work and can focus on customer service and improving service quality. Both store operation efficiency and customer satisfaction have reportedly increased.
In addition, BellaBot serves not only as a simple delivery robot but also as a moving ambassador. It interacts with customers using various facial expressions and voice features, brightening the store atmosphere, while its advanced autonomous navigation allows it to recognize people and obstacles and move safely.
A Kyobo Bookstore representative stated, "Thanks to VD Robotics' service robot, the workload for staff has been reduced, and customers are experiencing a faster and more pleasant BaroDream service."
Yeon Seongbae, Head of the Service Robot Team at VD Robotics, said, "With this delivery to Kyobo Bookstore Gangnam, we have expanded the application of service robots to the book distribution market.
