48 Local Governments Participate... Yeonggwang County Wins National Assembly Speaker’s Award, Seo District in Gwangju Receives Prime Minister’s Award

The "2025 Excellent Local Autonomy Policy Conference," co-hosted by Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province and the Excellent Local Government Association, was successfully held at Sarangjae Hall in the National Assembly on the 7th, with the participation of 48 local governments from across the country.

This event, held to mark the 30th anniversary of the introduction of local autonomy, featured presentations and awards for outstanding policies by local governments, as well as the sharing of achievements. More than 300 people attended the event, including National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonshik, Prime Minister Kim Minseok, local government leaders, public officials, and citizens from across the country.
At the event, Yeonggwang County in South Jeolla Province received the National Assembly Speaker’s Award for its "Yeonggwang Basic Income Implementation System Utilizing Sunlight and Wind," Seo District in Gwangju received the Prime Minister’s Award for its "Seo District Neighborhood Commercial Area Innovation Model," and Paju City in Gyeonggi Province received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award for its "Paju, a Leading City of Basic Society."
In addition, 26 local governments were honored, including Boseong County in South Jeolla Province, which received the Excellent Local Government Association Grand Prize for its "Clean 600: Korea’s Makeover by the Hands of Residents," and Jeongeup City in North Jeolla Province, Jungnang District in Seoul, Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province, and Seongbuk District in Seoul, which each received the Excellent Local Government Association’s Top Excellence Award.
Seungwon Park, Mayor of Gwangmyeong City, stated, "This conference was an opportunity to confirm that the changes and policies created by each local government have become a force that transforms everyone’s lives," adding, "We will continue to work together with local governments nationwide to build a true path to local autonomy, where citizens are the true owners."
