According to Hwajeong 3-dong on November 7, this contest was organized as a village agenda project chosen at the 2024 residents’ assembly, and targeted home gardens created by residents themselves by utilizing unused spaces within their own homes.
This initiative was not only aimed at improving the environment, but also at providing a platform for residents to share and interact through their gardens, thereby contributing to the spread of a sustainable home gardening culture in daily life.
The selected outstanding works ranged from small jar gardens to vibrant flower beds, each garden reflecting the life stories of the residents. In particular, the grand prize-winning 'Bniel Garden' was highly praised for being more than just a residential space; it was created as a European-style garden where the family could communicate and make memories together, featuring evergreen landscapes and seasonal flowers throughout the year.
This kind of voluntary participation by residents in beautifully cultivating private spaces within their homes is expected to serve as a model example for beautifying the community.
An official from Hwajeong 3-dong stated, "The selected outstanding gardens will be marked on the village map and made accessible to both residents and visitors. We will also promote support projects, such as horticultural education, to ensure their continued maintenance."
He added, "We will make this contest a regular event so that Hwajeong 3-dong can become more than just a residential area, evolving into a community space where history, culture, and home gardening coexist."
